Vidi e-novation 2007 has shown that Croatia really has individuals who can develop
top-quality world-level innovative ICT products
Just like last year, this year Vidi e-novation has also seen the application of a substantial number of inventive works behind which are not big companies, but socalled ordinary (and in fact extraordinary) individuals brimming with enthusiasm, technical competence and desire to succeed. The competition was very intense and it showed that Croatian innovation scene should not lack original solutions in the future. The jury decided to give awards to such works which surpassed the rest in terms of inventiveness, business potential and obvious potential for social benefit.

ENTERPRISES
Judging by the applications for the Vidi e-novation 2007, Croatia’s small enterprises
contain a real social, still undisclosed capital in the form of ICT innovations competitive
at world level
Unlike last year, when we had plenty of applicants from medium enterprises, this year we have united small and medium enterprises (defined according to Croatian Chamber of Economy) into a unique category, and in doing so, we maximized the competition.
So, we can easily conclude that the laureates holding gold, silver and bronze Tesla’s egg have presented us with innovations of extraordinary quality and exceptional business and social potential. Due to all this, the jury felt an inclination to give special acknowledgements and confirm the inventiveness of additional 12 applicants, whose market potential should not be questionable.

It shouldn’t be illogical to expect of academic institutions not only to encourage inventiveness, but also to stimulate specific innovative solutions whose quality will be one of the moving forces of he Croatian economy. In the western world the colleges are not only incubators of knowledge, but source of financial support as well. Croatia is also moving in that direction. Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing invented a system for computer aided document indexing (CADIS) which indeed has an international level of ICT competitiveness.

TWO VIDI STARS – DOUBLE WINNER
This year, Vidi e-novation organizers are presenting special award. For the first time we have a project winning double crown due to its
remarkable market potential, one awarded by the jury and the other by Vidi itself.
Who is innovative to such a degree? Starting with the premise that knowledge and knowledge management is the basis for innovation and its transformation into globally recognized, profitable product, Vidi Publishing has established a special award this year, awarded by Vidi itself for a remarkably innovative product having high market potential.
From this year on, it shall be awarded once a year, within Vidi e-novation contest, for products and services applying for contest and winning high points, for which Vidi e-novation organizers believe they can significantly contribute to developing innovation in Croatia and transforming them into high quality, globally competitive products. If such products appear in the future as well, Vidi shall award one Vidi e-novation prize each year for particularly innovative product having high market potential.
