| HELP FOR THE BLIND IN ORIENTATION
Even though the global IT community has already been presented with several solutions of this kind,
Vergilius is unique because it is composed of much easy-accessible and cheap hardware
The Vergilius project helps the blind and partially sighted people move and orient in closed spaces by using a handheld device (PDA) and RFID reader and tags with long range (up to 100 meters) and technology which converts text into speech. Even though the global IT community has already been presented with several solutions of this kind, Vergilius relies on a hardware which is commercially available to everyone. The project was created by students of the Faculty of Organization and Informatics in Varaždin which is attended by a blind student and by a partially sighted student. Therefore it is natural that the beta version of the project should be released at the Faculty itself, as a help to colleagues.
